The American Biochar Institute (ABI), in collaboration with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS), is launching the development of the Biochar Atlas. This national digital platform is designed to help farmers, agronomists, and NRCS staff evaluate, source, and implement biochar as a soil amendment.
Phase 1 Focus:
The initial engagement focuses on the Biochar Suitability Tool, a GIS-based desktop application that translates soil logic and biochar properties into actionable site management goals. While this RFP initially contracts for Phase 1 ($150,000 ceiling), ABI is looking for a long-term partner capable of delivering future modules, including a Sourcing Tool, Learning Center, and Deployment Database.
